Theriogenology. Back to Basics

Objectives:  1) to provide participants with a  good background in small animal reproduction that is vital to general practice (even without breeding dogs or cats)

2) to provide a case example seen in everyday small animal practice and demonstrate how I or a general practitioner would work that case up

Speaker: Dr. Mary Sebzda, DVM, DACT

Bio:  Dr.  Mary Sebzda graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1998, before making sunny California her home.  She practised dairy and companion animal medicine in the San Joaquin Valley for 2 years before deciding that both the beach and small animal theriogenology were her passions.  She then moved to southern California and started working for Newport Harbor Animal Hospital in Costa Mesa, CA in 2000. Over the next two decades, she introduced and then expanded the practice’s services in  the areas of small animal reproduction and neonatology.

In  2009 she began her residency through the alternate route ( mentorship directed study and general practice with focus on theriogenology, at the same time) before becoming board certified by the American College of Theriogenologists in 2011.

She continues to enjoy general practice but enjoys reproduction cases the most: particularly cases of male and female infertility, high risk pregnancy management, advanced reproductive technology and really enjoys putting much wanted puppies and kittens in the arms of loving dog owners.

She welcomes third and fourth year students looking to do external rotation in the area of theriogenology and is looking forward to speaking to all of you today.
