Description
Veterinary hospitals are at a crossroad: either adopt technology and become more efficient, or stick with traditional methods and risk financial health, team well-being and client relationships. Becoming “tech-forward” may sound daunting but the benefits gained, from work-flow efficiency to improved patient care, are well-worth the bumps in the road. Join Dr. Brendon Laing, veterinarian, practice owner and technology advocate, as he takes you on a lesson-filled client journey through a technology-forward practice.
Program Agenda
- Level-set on current state of veterinary medicine
- Present current industry pain points (Shifting generational expectations, increased demand for services, labour shortages)
- Present a definition of technology and assess the audience for their level of “tech” comfort
- Introduce different types of technology that could be used pre-appointment, appointment ang post-appointment, and provide a prediction as to their level of impact on the identified pain points.
Learning objectives:
- Level-set on the impact that shifting generational expectations, increased demand for services and labour shortages have had on the veterinary profession.
- Identify low-, mid-, and high-tech options that could be used pre-appointment, during appointment and post-appointment
- Demonstrate how different types of technology can have an impact on practice communication, staff efficiency and schedule control.
Presenter: Brendon Laing, DVM:
Dr. Brendon Laing is a practicing small animal veterinarian with an entrepreneurial spirit who is always looking for new ways to serve pet parents and the community. Dr. Laing received his bachelor’s degree from Queen’s University and his veterinary degree from the Ontario Veterinary College, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Small Animal Surgery Award from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. After graduation, he joined his father in practice, making them a rare father-son team.

He has been providing veterinary advice as WhiStle Radio’s resident veterinarian for the past four years and loves educating children at his local 4H Club. Brendon also sits on the Ontario VMA’s Executive Committee as Secretary-Treasurer and is the current chair of the Professional Development Committee for the Canadian VMA, where he helps shape the future of the veterinary profession.
Brendon’s passion for improving veterinary care has driven him to pursue new ways to practice veterinary medicine. He believes that technology will be the cornerstone of future veterinary practices, enabling veterinarians to surpass the expectations of today’s well-educated and service-minded pet parents.
