Approved for one hour California Statutory CEU

Summary:  Some days it feels like commercial products are one size fits no one as we are trying to figure out how to treat our patients when we struggle to get an accurate dosage and struggle to get that dosage into the patient reliably. This is when we can reach for compounded medications that are made specifically to suit a particular patient’s needs. However, compounded medications aren’t without risk, which requires us to consider the risk-benefit ratio of utilizing these medications. This session will identify the pros and cons of commonly compounded dosage forms, as well as the risks we need to be aware of when reaching for compounded medications. Considerations to decrease the risk of compounded medications will also be covered. Participants will leave this session with an understanding of the points that should be considered when reaching for a compounded product as well as considerations to ensure the product is the best option to meet the specific needs of the individual patient.
