Practical Nutrition for the Busy Veterinarian

Speaker: Lisa Weeth, DVM, MRCVS, DACVIM (Nutrition)

Bio:  Dr. Lisa Weeth received her veterinary degree from University of California, Davis, in 2002, and after 2 years in General Practice went

back to UC Davis to complete a residency in Clinical Nutrition. She completed her specialty training and became a Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionists in 2007 and has been in specialty practice offering in-person or telemedicine nutrition consultations ever since. Starting in 2018 she has been heading the Nutrition Department at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital in Los Angeles, California, and in addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Weeth is a frequent lecturer at regional, national, and international veterinary conferences; serves on the WSAVA Global Nutrition Committee; and is on the Executive Board for the American Association of Veterinary Nutrition.

Learning Objectives/Lecture Overview:

Dr. Weeth will briefly review nutrition fundamentals for veterinary patients, as well as give updates on pending changes to pet food labels and ongoing concerns about grain-free diet and copper levels in commercial pet foods. They will also discuss ways to utilize the veterinary team to improve diet compliance, and use a case-based approach to provide tips and techniques on incorporating nutrition into everyday practice

Speaker: Stewart Morgan, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Nutrition)

Bio: Dr. Morgan is originally from the east coast. He was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. He went to Haverford College in Pennsylvania for his Bachelors, Stony Brook University for his Ph.D. in Genetics, Cornell University for his D.V.M. and to Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine for his residency training in Comparative Veterinary Nutrition.

Dr. Morgan has both small and large animal experience. He was an Assistant Professor at Western University College of Veterinary Medicine and the former Associate Manager of Scientific Affairs (for the United States) at Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

In Dr. Morgan’s spare time he likes to compete with his dogs, Brad and Glenn, who are Brittanys. He also likes spending time with his cat “Wakshlag.”

As a comparative veterinary nutritionist, Dr. Morgan is able to manage cases that respond to nutrition in both small and large animal patients.
