Speaker: Sumeet Gupta, DVM

Bio: Dr. Sumeet Gupta joined the Merck Animal Health Companion Animal Southern California team this summer (2024) as the Professional Services Veterinarian after 3 years in private practice in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Before moving to Hawai’i, he was a PSV for IDEXX in the Northeast/NYC region.

With a background in practice management, emergency, general practice, and exotic animal medicine, he is excited to bring his motivating and inspiring communications style to the Merck Team and help veterinarians in the region achieve their goals in clinical practice. Sumeet has been featured on the AVMA’s podcast, as well as a speaker at VMX and MCVMA conferences on effective communication with clients of diverse backgrounds, providing methods to improve the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship, and overall satisfaction in outcomes for all involved in a pet’s care.

Sumeet attended Ohio State’s Veterinary College and completed an internship at VCA West Los Angeles before he started as an overnight emergency clinician which turned into a Medical Director role. His husband was then offered to be lead choreographer for Saturday Night Live, prompting their move to NYC and his joining IDEXX. He is well versed in diagnostics and has managed many once-in-a-career cases such as mesenteric torsion, phosphofructokinase deficiency, and juvenile genetic vitamin D deficiency.

His husband, Manwé, and their dog, Obiwan Kenobi, join him as they relocate back to his home in SoCal. Outside of work, they enjoy hiking and beach days, as well as going to new exhibits and art installations throughout the region. They often venture into Baja California and enjoy the culinary scene of Mexico. Manwé will continue his work as a Choreographer in TV, film and music, and Obiwan will continue his hard work as a couch potato.
