Osteoarthritis in Dogs: A Multifactorial Disease Requiring a Multimodal Approach

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common conditions in dogs and can result in chronic, progressive clinical signs including pain, inflammation, and decreased range of motion (ROM). The presentation reviews common signs of OA (considerations to improve early diagnosis), pain pathways, various treatment modalities and the benefits of early intervention utilizing a multimodal approach to long-term management.

Bio: Dr. Blake received her BS in Zoology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees from the University of California – Davis and after graduation, completed an internship at a private full-service primary and referral equine practice in Southern California. After working as an associate veterinarian, she opened her own ambulatory practice in Sacramento, California growing her business over the next 9 years.
In 2008, Dr. Blake transitioned away from clinical practice to pursue technical editing and writing for a major publishing company and for a variety of animal health industry clients. Her work included technical writing and editing for sponsored articles, continuing education, symposium proceedings and website content for companies such as Abbott Animal Health, Bayer Animal Health, Nestlé Purina, Dechra, VetStreet and others. Her byline appeared frequently in Veterinary Medicine and on dvm360.com.
Dr. Blake has continued to support clinical veterinarians as both a Pharmacovigilance Veterinarian, monitoring and evaluating the safety and efficacy of animal health products and as a Technical Marketing Manager, working with scientists and other veterinarians to introduce a novel line of oral products for dogs. Dr. Blake joined American Regent Animal Health in 2021 where she continues to support veterinarians in practice as a Sr. Manager, Professional Services Veterinarian.
She currently resides in Flower Mound, TX
