Osteoarthritis in Dogs: A Multifactorial Disease Requiring a Multimodal Approach

Learners will be able to identify the prevalence and common signs of OA, the pathways to pain and the benefits of the components of multimodal management, including medications, disease modifying OA agents, weight management, exercise modification, physical rehabilitation modalities, environment modifications, and surgical procedures. Finally, the learners will be taught about the role that Adequan® Canine plays in the multi-modal management of OA.

 

In this lecture, attendees will:

  • Learn about canine osteoarthritis (OA)
  • Explore current treatment modalities
  • Learn about the safety and science behind polysulfated glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG)
  • Understand how PSGAG may fit into their management strategy for canine OA

 

Speaker:  Paris Revoir, DVM

Bio: Dr. Revoir, a graduate of the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Veterinary Medicine, began his career as an associate in small animal practice in Midland, Mich. Four years later, he joined Hill’s Pet Nutrition as a professional services representative in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. area. In 1990, Dr. Revoir opened PetWorks Veterinary Hospital, a full-service small animal practice in Overland Park, Kan., that was recognized for innovation. In 1999, he received the prestigious Distinguished Veterinary Alumni Award from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Michigan State, which honors one MSU CVM graduate annually for excellence in private practice. During his time in private practice in Overland Park, Dr. Revoir hosted “Pet Talk,” a live ask-the-vet radio call-in program, and served on several animal health industry practitioner advisory boards. In 2003, he returned to industry for years of service at Hill’s, Bayer Animal Health, Merck Animal Health and Zomedica, where he provided technical support to marketing, customer service and field sales organizations; worked with key opinion leaders and veterinary colleges; and offered critical input to R&D teams. In 2021, after one year with Zomedica, Dr. Revoir received the prestigious Professional Services Veterinarian of the Year award. Dr. Revoir joined American Regent Animal Health in 2022 as a Technical Services Veterinarian where he continues to support veterinarians in practice. He currently resides in Minnetrista, Minn., with his wife Tracy (also an accomplished veterinarian), their two cats Gracie and Skeeter, and their dog Tilly.
