Objective: In this lecture, the diagnostic approach to oral masses will be reviewed, including staging with oral tumor work-up. Different approaches to oral tumor biopsy will be emphasized. Mass diagnoses (benign versus malignant), treatment decisions, and treatment modalities will be reviewed. The overall goal of this discussion is to empower veterinarians to become more comfortable with potential diagnoses for oral masses and how to best ascertain a definitive diagnosis, which ultimately informs treatment options and prognosis for their cat and dog patients.

Bio: Dr. Jenna N. Winer graduated as a veterinarian from the University of California – Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She earned the distinction of graduating with the #1 rank academically in her veterinary class. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Winer obtained her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis.

Following graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Winer completed a one-year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery in Los Angeles at the Animal Specialty and Emergency Center (ASEC). She then returned to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine for three years of advanced residency training in Dentistry and Oral Surgery. During her residency, Dr. Winer participated in many research projects & publications, including studies on feline chronic gingivostomatitis, the use of 3-D printing in maxillofacial surgery, and CT scan findings in dogs with retrobulbar disease.
