Puppies and Kittens: Give them the Right Start
Puppies and Kittens come into the practice, they are adorable and you just want to play with them. But we as the health care team need to be instrumental in helping pet parents navigate their new bundle of joy by helping to give them the right start. Puppies come in different sizes and reach maturity at different times. We will learn about nutrients of concern, as well as how to understand the AAFCO statement for large breed puppies. We will discuss a puppy visit as well as when to switch a puppy to an adult food. We will learn about kittens and nutrients of concern. We will discuss a kitten visit and when to switch a kitten to an adult food. We will end with meeting Buddy a large breed puppy and understand the importance of having a nutritional conversation.
Becoming a Veterinary Technician Specialist
We will review what is required to become a veterinary Technician specialist (VTS). Academies develop advanced pathways, which a candidate must follow and complete in order to be awarded the designation of VTS (Veterinary Technician Specialist) in their specific discipline. If you have always had a dream to become a specialist pick what you are passionate about and go for it. We will review the current sixteen recognized specialties. Becoming a VTS is hard work, but worth it.

Pup Pup Puree! Blending Puppy Management and Skin Disease
Puppies are exciting to see when they are healthy but can be extremely challenging when they are sick. As a clinician, it can be difficult to balance the needs of a sick puppy including their owners as well as performing the job of a good clinician. Common skin diseases including diagnosing food allergies and atopy will be discussed with tips on blending puppyhood management in hospital and at home.

Vicky Ograin, MBA, RVT, VTS (Nutrition)
Vicky received her technician degree from Los Angeles Pierce College. She served in private practice for many years in California, and then 21 years ago began a career with Hill’s Pet Nutrition, where she is an Engagement Specialist, in the US Professional Veterinary Affairs department, where she focuses on veterinary technicians/ nurses in technician/ nurse schools and graduates as well as developing and educating on nutrition. In 2008, she completed a Master’s in Business Administration. Vicky obtained her Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in nutrition in June 2013. Vicky speaks nationally and internationally and is a published author.
Dr. Lisa Weeth, DVM, DACVN
Dr. Lisa Weeth received her veterinary degree from the University of California, Davis, in 2002, and after spending two years in general and emergency practice she returned to UC Davis for a Residency in Clinical Nutrition. She completed her residency training in 2007 and became a Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist that year. Dr. Weeth has been in specialty practice offering in-person or telemedicine nutrition consultations since 2007 and since 2018 has been heading the Nutrition Department at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital in Los Angeles, California. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Weeth serves on the WSAVA Global Nutrition Committee; is on the Executive Board for the American Association of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN); and is a regular lecturer at regional, national and international veterinary conferences.
Dr. Charly Dong, DVM, DACVD
Dr. Charli Dong earned her degree in veterinary medicine from Western University of Health Sciences. She completed her residency at Animal Dermatology Clinic in Pasadena and became a boarded dermatologist in 2016.
She was the recipient of the Resident Research Award in Clinical Science. Her special interests include atopic dermatitis, dermoscopy, video-otoscopy, autoimmune diseases, hair-growth, and clinical research. Currently, her main research is on atopic dermatitis, focusing on developing new diagnostic tests, holistic therapies, and the understanding of atopic dermatitis. She has authored and contributed to many publications.
Dr. Dong lectures nationally and internationally, sharing her passion in dermatology with veterinarians. She trains residents, veterinary students, and currently serves as chair on the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) Exam Committee.
