**This webinar will be on WEDNESDAY**

This webinar will focus on correcting common misconceptions surrounding newly available antiviral therapy for FIP, responding to frequently asked questions, and providing insights from FIP therapy research.  This will include data and expertise gained from studying over 5 years of use of this drug on the black market. The session will incorporate lots of pro-tips to empower veterinarians to effectively treat FIP in their own practice and reclaim this phenomenal cure into the veterinary space.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the legality of compounded GS-441524 and gain confidence in explaining this to owners
  • Identify common misconceptions about the use of antiviral drugs for FIP; and their misguided use for FECV.
  • Describe how to effectively treat FIP in a variety of clinical contexts, and within the current social media landscape

Speaker: Dr. Samantha Evans DVM, PhD, DACVP

Bio: Dr. Samantha Evans is a native of Boulder, Colorado and attended Colorado State University for her BS in chemistry, followed by a combined DVM/PhD program at the University of California Davis, where her PhD dissertation focused on feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) latency. Next, Dr. Evans completed a medicine and surgery internship at Michigan State University and then circled back to CSU for a residency in clinical pathology. She was faculty at the Ohio State University for four years but is now back home in Colorado as an assistant professor of clinical pathology at CSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Evans lives in Fort Collins with 1 dog, 2 cats, 3 babies, and her husband David, and studies feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) from both diagnostic and therapeutic perspectives.

Speaker: Nicole Jacque

Bio: A graduate of the university of Wisconsin-Madison, Nicole is a longstanding advocate for feline welfare, with over a decade of experience working in various capacities with rescues and rescue clinics. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of SNAPCats, a special needs cat rescue and sanctuary located in Santa Rosa, California. Nicole is also the co-founder of FIP Global C.A.T.S. a not-for-profit group which provides support for FIP treatment to individuals and rescues, fundraises for FIP research, and advocates for the needs of cats with FIP.

After losing her cat Theodore to FIP in 2018, Nicole became passionate about advocating for research funding and development of new treatment options for cats with FIP. This advocacy led to ongoing research collaboration with Dr. Samantha Evans’ FIP research group, co-authoring papers on FIP treatment, with a particular focus on the emerging phenomenon of unregulated black market FIP treatment.

In addition to her efforts in the animal advocacy space, Nicole is a full-time software engineering manager and cat mom, and amateur race car driver.
