Rachel Kurzbard, MS, DVM, Residency trained in  clinical nutrition

  • “Tipping the scale in your favor: Strategies for Successful Weight Loss Plans.”
  • Obesity is increasingly common in companion dogs and cats. More than benign adipose tissue deposition, obesity exacerbates numerous disease processes and can negatively impact pets’ quality and length of life. This presentation will outline implementation of weight loss plans, and includes tips for improving owner compliance and strategies for obesity prevention

Bio: Dr. Rachel Kurzbard is a Small Animal Clinical Nutrition Clinician with strong interests in communication, owner education, and the human-animal bond. She enjoys working on cases with multiple concurrent conditions, assisted feeding plans, critical care nutrition, and weight loss plans. Dr. Kurzbard completed a Bachelors of science in Animal Science at UC Davis then a Master of Science in Animal biology also from UC Davis.  She received her DVM from Western University of Health Sciences.  Upon graduation she completed a one year rotating internship at Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Irvine Ca.  Dr. Kurzbard recently completed residency, Small Animal Clinical Nutrition, University of Missouri, Columbia.  She is currently working at Blue Pearl in Irvine Ca. 

Tiffany Barazza, RVT, VTS(Nutrition)

Bio: My name is Tiffany Barraza, I am an RVT and have my VTS in Nutrition. I have been in the veterinary field for the last 15 years. I am currently a college instructor and work at a specialty emergency hospital. I have a well rounded career in the veterinary field having worked in; an animal shelter, a mobile equine veterinary hospital, low cost spay and neuter clinics and emergency hospitals. I am a part of the Academy of Veterinary Nutrition Technicians and have a plethora of pets at home consisting of cats, dogs, and reptiles.

Leslie Bourdreau, BASVT, RVTg, CVPM, SPHR, PHRca

  • “Crisis or Crossroad: Understanding what credentialed Veterinary technicians bring to the practice”
  • Learning Objectives: The history of credentialed Veterinary Technicians; Economic studies and the value & role of RVT’s; How to hire, Attract, & Retain Veterinary Technicians

Bio:  Leslie has an A.S. degree and Certificate in Animal Science from Mt. San Antonio College, and a Certificate, A.A., and BAS degree in Veterinary Technology-Hospital Management from St. Petersburg College. In addition, she has been an RVTg (Registered Veterinary Technologist) in California since 1995. She brings a wide range of experience to our hospital. In 2011 Leslie received her CVPM (Certified Veterinary Practice Manager) certification from the Veterinary Hospital Manager’s Association and became one of the few CVPM’s in the country. She is a member of AAHA, CVMA, NAVTA, CaRVTA, SCVMA, and VHMA.
