Lecture description: Acute phase proteins such as serum amyloid A (SAA) and C-reactive protein (CRP) increase with acute, systemic inflammation and can be very useful as biomarkers to help diagnose and monitor infection and other conditions such as acute pancreatitis. Understanding the physiology, clinical applicability, and interpretation of such biomarkers can enhance your clinical approach and optimize patient care by quickly narrowing the differential list, helping to guide treatment, and detecting complications early.
