This presentation introduces basic preventative veterinary medicine, diagnostics and common disease processes of various aquatic taxa. Species covered include teleosts, elasmobranchs, amphibians, cetaceans and pinnipeds. Also explored include careers and furthering one’s education in aquatic animal medicine.

 

Speaker: Alana Frum, LVTg, RVTg, BASVT

Alana Frum is a credentialed veterinary technologist practicing in Maryland. She has a background in exotic and aquatic veterinary medicine, spending three years in avian and exotic specialty practice before transitioning to her current role in an aquarium. Outside of her full-time job, she also undertakes contract work at a biomedical research facility as well as teaching veterinary classes at a local community college. She obtained her veterinary technology degrees from Penn Foster and St. Petersburg College and intends on furthering her education in the near future with veterinary graduate studies. Her passions include everything herptile as well as spreading knowledge and awareness of exotic and aquatic veterinary medicine.
